Doris Burke was born on January 4th, 1965, in West Islip, New York. She started playing basketball at a young age. At high school, she played as a point guard. After she was recruited by several colleges, she chose the Providence College in Rhode Island, playing at the the Providence Friars team.

During her college sport career, she became a second-team All-Big East player and also the college’s Co-Female Athlete of the Year. In 1999, Burke got a place in the Providence College Hall of Fame. Her broadcasting career started as an analyst for women’s games in 1990.

Burke is the first woman working as a color analyst for a New York Knicks game, both on TV and radio, as an analyst for a Big East men’s game, and as the primary analyst on a men’s college basketball conference package. In 2013, she signed a contract extension as the ESPN’s NBA commentator. Doris used to be married to Gregg Burke, they have two children together.
