Ian Hislop was born July 13th, 1960, in Swansea, Wales. During his childhood, he lived all around the world and later he studied at Ardingly College. At that time, he started his career, appearing in revues with Nick Newman and directing. Hislop and Newman studied both at the Oxford University and then often worked together. During his studies, Hislop was an editor of Passing Wind, a satirical magazine.

After he left Oxford, Hislop joined Private Eye. In 1986, he became an editor. His worked earned him a reputation of the most sued man in a legal history of England. In 1983, Hislop debuted in television, appearing on the chat show titled Loose Talk. Since then, you could see him regularly on Have I Got News for You.
