Poxleitner was born on April 11th, 1987, in Timmins, Ontario into the family of Welsh mother and Canadian father. She traveled a lot during her childhood. When she was eighteen years old, she legally changed her name to Lights and moved to Toronto. Lights started using social network MySpace at the age of 15, amassing a number of followers. That’s where her career started.

As an teenager, she played guitar and she was also a singer in the metal called band Shovel Face. She also began a songwriter for Sony/ATV Music Publishing. From 2007 to 2014, Lights had Jian Ghomeshi as a manager. She started with live tours in 2008. Lights released three studio albums so far, The Listening in 2009, Siberia in 2011, and Little Machines in 2014.

Lights met her current husband Beau Bokan, the lead vocalist of Blessthefall, during her concert in Los Angeles because she caught his eye and he asked a mutual friend to introduce them. That’s how they started dating. The couple got married in May 2012. Almost two years later, Lighs gave birth to their first child. The family currently lives in Mission, British Columbia.
