Kodak Black was born as Dieuson Octave on June 11th, 1997, in Pompano Beach, Florida, to Haiti imigrants. His real name is Dieuson Octave. When he was twelve, he started rapping with his cousins in elementary school and participated in the local rap group named Brutal Youngnz, then in the rap group named Kolyons.

In 2013, Kodak Black released is first mixtape titled Project Baby. Two years later, he released another mixtape Institution. He produced his music in collaboration with Florida music promoter Dollaz N Dealz. His music is inspired by rappers Chief Keef and Lil Boosie and often includes the controversial topic of criminal acts.

According to several sources, Kodak has repeatedly problems with the law and was placed into a juvenile detention center for several times in one year, and then even placed on a probation. In 2015, he was arrested in Pompano Beach, charging with robbery, battery, possession of cannabis, and false imprisonment of a child. Shortly after his releasing, he scored a lucrative contract with Atlantic Records company.
